WEATHER 24 july


Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbhainterior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.

Southwest monsoon was active over Konkan & Goa and South Interior Karnataka for most days; over East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana for a few days and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch & Diu, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka and Kerala for one or two days of the week.

METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS


An upper air cyclonic circulation lay over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Odisha & Jharkhand on 18th July between 1.5 km above mean sea level to mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area formed on 19th July over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood and persisted on 20th July. It lay over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining Jharkhand, Bihar, southeast Uttar Pradesh & northeast Madhya Pradesh on 21st July morning and merged with monsoon trough on the same day.
Another low pressure area formed over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 21st July. The low pressure area became well marked on 22nd July and lay over the same region. The system weakned into a low pressure area on 23rd July and lay over westcentral Bay of Bengal & Odisha. It lay over interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh on 24th July morning and over West Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood on 24th July afternoon.

The axis of monsoon trough was near its normal position during 18th to 21st July and south of its normal position during 22nd to 24th July.

The off-shore trough ran from Gujarat coast to Kerala coast during most days of the week.

RAINFALL

Widespread rainfall occurred over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; Konkan & Goa, Marathawada, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala for most days; over Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana for many days; over Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Lakshadweep for a few days and over Assam & Meghalaya, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Vidarbha and interior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.

Fairly widespread rainfall occurred over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, West Madhya Pradesh and South Interior Karnataka for most days; over Saurashtra, Kutch & Diu for many days; over Assam & Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep for a few days and over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.

Scattered rainfall occurred over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and East Rajasthan for most days; Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat Region and North Interior Karnataka for many days; over Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema for a few days and over Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch & Diu, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Tamilnadu & Puducherry and South Interior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.

Isolated rainfall occurred over Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry for most days; over Punjab for many days; over Jammu & Kashmir, West Rajasthan and Rayalaseema for a few days and over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch & Diu, Marathawada, Vidarbha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh for one or two days of the week

Mainly dry weather prevailed over West Rajasthan and Lakshadweep for one or two days of the week.
