SIGNIFICANT WEATHER

  • Southwest monsoon was vigorous over West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and South Interior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.
  • Southwest monsoon was active over Kerala for many days; over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Chhattisgarh for a few days and over Assam & Meghalaya, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana and interior Karnataka for one or two days of the week.

METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS

  • Last week’s cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal persisted over the same area on 20th June between 3.1 to 5.8 Km above mean sea level and the circulation lay over north Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 21st extending upto mid-tropospheric level tilting southwestwards with height. Under the influence of the system a low pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 22nd associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 Km above mean sea level. The system persisted over the same area on 23rd and over coastal Odisha & adjoining areas on 24th. The system intensified into a well marked low pressure on 25th over north Odisha & neighbourhood associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 Km above mean sea level and moved over northeast Madhya Pradesh & adjoining areas of southeast Uttar Pradesh on 26th June associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric level tilting southwestwards with height.
  • The off-shore trough ran from Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast on 20th, persisted from 21st to 25th and ran Gujarat coast to Kerala coast on 26th June.
  • Axis of monsoon trough ran north of its normal position during 21st to 23rd and south of its normal position during 25th to 26th June while western end ran north of its normal position and eastern end south of its normal position on 24th June 2013.

RAINFALL

  • Widespread rainfall occurred over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala for most days; over Lakshadweep for many days; over Chhattisgarh for a few days and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, northeastern States, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha and Telangana for one or two days of the week.
  • Fairly widespread rainfall occurred over East Madhya Pradesh for many days; over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal for a few days and over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep for one or two days of the week.
  • Scattered rainfall occurred over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Bihar, Marathawada and South Interior Karnataka for many days; over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Karnataka for a few days and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep for one or two days of the week.
  • Isolated rainfall occurred over East Rajasthan, Gujarat State and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry for most days; over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rayalaseema for many days; over Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep for a few days and over West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep for one or two days of the week.

Sub-divisionwise daily distribution of rainfall is shown in Table-1.

Rainfall During The Week (For the week ending on 26th June, 2013)


Rainfall was excess/normal in 23 and deficient/scanty in 13 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions. (All India Actual: 48.8 mm, Normal: 47.4 mm and Departure: +3%).

Cumulative Seasonal Rainfall (1st June to 26th June, 2013)

Rainfall was excess/normal in 32 and deficient/scanty in 4 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions. (All India Actual: 180.7 mm, Normal: 132.1 mm and Departure: +37%).
The sub-division wise weekly and seasonal rainfall distribution is presented in Fig.1 and Fig.2.

Statewise distribution of number of districts with excess, normal, deficient, scanty and no rainfall is shown in Table-2.

A comparative data of cumulative seasonal rainfall during the corresponding period in the last five years is given in Table-3.

Outlook For The Week Ending on 3rd July, 2013

  • Rain/thundershowers would occur at most places over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern states during many days of the week.
  • Rain/thundershowers would occur at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and at a few places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal during many days of the week.
  • Rain/thundershowers would occur at many places along west coast during the week.
  • Subdued rainfall activity over peninsular India during the week.
